1.do you think that today’s research method was sucessful?

I was very confused because it was my first class. Not long after arriving in London, I was unable to do research in a variety of deep and diverse ways.
I wanted to experience everything she was inspired by, like books, movies, and music, but I was so sad that I couldn't yet.
I think it takes time to delve into and think deeply about a subject in order to proceed with a project on a subject
The linguistic part and unfamiliar environment made it difficult.

Now, the solution to this problem is not to go deep into all of her concerns.
I think it would be better to plan the time well for the deadlines and to study more about what interests me than to look at it all blindly.

2.did your collages meet the criteria, how?

I thought it was not good to mix all criteria to show a coherent unified visual story.
I tried to show my identity and cultural background within storytelling.

criteria

1.identity

2.cultural background

3.heritage

4.story telling(=visual nattative)

In order to meet the standards, more diverse images should have been used experimentally, but the failure to do so was regrettable.
I had a lot of thought about how I should develop the portfolio process.
I think there's a lot of processes, different processes, different people, different people, different people

The bottom line is, first of all, after a mind map, how to set one topic and show it consistently.
Second, if not relevant, a method to conduct a wide range of experiments, combine elements that can then be connected and show consistent results.

I think I should show the selective grooming process after various experiments, but it seems that i couldn't proceed with the project because I tried to show an image that was too organized from the beginning.

1.Create your own plan

I couldn't plan because I couldn't grasp the process and had various everyday problems.

2.Reflect on your process development? Did you have any difficulties - what were these ex. Time management , insufficient research , how can this be improved?

Due to a number of problems, including time in late arrival in London failed to properly supervise the insufficient research is caused by that

More systematically to adjust to life in the region forward, I will try to organize a time.

3. how has seeing peers work affected the way you cam improve yours

I didn't understand how to proceed with the work, so I tried to find out as much as I could about the way my friends were progressing, and they each had different different approaches.
On the technical side, I experienced that my friends' work style that I unwittingly did appears similar in my sketchbook, and I'm not sure if it's a good thing to see as a reinterpretation or a bad thing to see as a imitation.

Guided Contextual Writing (to be uploaded to Workflow);

Responding to the ideas generated in the brainstorming activity you are required to write a 200-word critical review about 1 con- cept of your choosing. You will research and find examples of artists, designers, scientists or any factual research that justifies your design/concept. The fabrics within the selected category need to be the focus of your review.

-you think you were successful with the way you displayed your work? if so why / why not?

After coming to London, I couldn't complete the project because I didn't solve many problems and didn't manage my time well.
I should have focused a little more on the display and found a way to show my strengths even if I showed a project I didn't complete.
I think what I did was just lay out on the desk even though I could show my work through a lot of other media.

-what part of project did you engage with the most?

Thinking about the sketchbook process, I couldn't follow a guide that required me to focus on one after various approaches

-How did the Peer Crits Affect your work?

I didn't get a proper cricket because there was no work done.

-name 3 things that were successful +3 that you would do differently

I don't think all the work is successful. I think that even if we didn't come up with the idea of integrating the whole thing, we should have gone through the sketchbook step by step according to the guide.

Gender neutrality & Identity;

the future of F&T design

 gender identity

Gender identity is the personal sense of one’s own gender. Gender identity can correlate with assigned sex at birth or can differ from it. All societies have a set of gender categories that can serve as the basis of the formation of a per- son’s social identity in relation to other members of society.

Non-binary

Non-binary is a spectrum of gender identities that are not exclusively mas- culine or exclusively feminine—identities that are outside the gender binary. Gender-queer is an earlier term with the same meaning, originating from queer zines of the 1980s.

-Queer Zines exhibition at the LA Art Book Fair. ... Here the queer zine is defined as a “self-published, serial publication with a 'queer spirit,' where the hand of the artist/maker is clearly visible in the final product.”

q. What is gender identity and non-binary?

q. Gender identity has become part of the conversation particularly in the world of fashion. Why is it so

relevant in today’s society?

q. Gender neutrality is being seen throughout the fashion industry, but is it the future of fashion de- sign?

q. Not conforming to gender or iden- tifying as non-binary appears to be a modern phenomenon but is there a wider historical story?

-different historical experience

-yamamoto female body

Worldwide, 1 in 4 people suffer from mental health issues, and LGBTQIA+ individuals are 3 times more likely to experience a mental health condition. LG- BTQIA+ youth are 4 times more likely to attempt suicide, experience suicidal thoughts, and engage in self harm, as compared to youths that are straight. 38-65% of transgender individuals expe- rience suicidal thoughts. (((And for black and brown communities, indigenous communities, and Asian communities in the West, mental health statis- tics are much higher compared to white adults.)))

q. Fashion has a position of power in our society. Who and what it rep- resents is key in bringing equality. and diversity

-responsibilities ? not just in fashion society, human

-In a brand campaign, if it say, "gay is normal!," children can say, 'Oh, Gay is normal things' when a they sees it.

q. Is gender a social construct?

-he does know what he does.

-how many people ~~~ ?

-Society and law to regulate,

-why can’t i have a 6 girlfriends?

q. Iceland is arguably one of the world’s most feminist countries in the world. When gender is so unbalanced across the world can gender neutrality help?

-gender neutrality

Gender neutrality (adjective form: gender-neutral), also known as gender-neutralism or the gender neutrality movement, is the idea that policies, language, and other social institutions (social structures, gender roles, or gender identity)[1] should avoid distinguishing roles according to people's sex or gender, in order to avoid discrimination arising from the impression that there are social roles for which one gender is more suited than another.

-> the need for society to respect the opinions of individuals who are divided into roles.

“Fashion as a space of poetical self-affirmation where the desire of the self can shine.”

-soundtrack composed by Jacques Auberger

Jacques" musical style resembles primarily bruitiste music9,10. The artist composes his songs by accumulating a succession of sounds produced by everyday objects of all sizes6,11. Most of his compositions are performed on stage, live. The audience then follows the song's evolution as it unfolds. He wants to create music that would make both normal people and «5 strange people dance.

The result is repetitive melodies from familiar or unfamiliar sounds.

Black gold

black gold collage.jpg

I've always had a longing for black people. Because of this, fitness to build muscles, tening to make skin darker, and listening to black music first made and developed by black people who have been enslaved in the americas were my favorite hobbies.

While doing research, i discovered the history of Jamaica and the historical fact that they were then called black gold and exploited by labor. i used this sentence : ’as for accessories… i like gold chains.’  because I have always admired their physical beauty.

The black rectangular spaces below contain sentences: ‘As a solution to the problem, Europeans caught black people in Africa and used them for forced labor. African black slaves were referred to as black gold‘ Not only about blacks, but there are still cases of racism and other things happening in the world.

When I saw this sentence, I felt the miserable treatment of people in the world, and I wrote the sentence in pencil and then overlaid it with a black mark, with the intention of showing this collage more carefully. Stickers on their faces represent their personality traits that disappeared as a slave at that time.

1.masculinity : erwin wurm

I came up with this writer in the word of masculinity and chose this writer because the subject of car is directly related to the power of men, which is commonly used in Korean society, and the inflated figure felt like the muscle is inflated.

muscles of the back.jpg

2.muscles : leonardao dav vinci

These drawings of the muscles of the back, from 1508 - 09, were probably made to show artists how to differentiate between the various shapes seen on the back of a figure. We can tell that the drawings are not of a living model because they follow the methods of Leonardo's drawings of his dissections of the body. In the drawings of the arm, for example, the divisions of the deltoid muscle have been exaggerated slightly and reflect Leonardo's methods of dissection: when muscles are put back together after dissection, the divisions remain rather more distinct than is normal.

This type of carefully outlined muscle structure was followed by Michelangelo's paintings, which resulted in the wonderful realism and solidity of the great figures in the Sistine Chapel. Although Michelangelo could be critical of Leonardo's achievements, he must have been keenly aware of the enormous strides Leonardo had made in the depiction of the human body according to scientific knowledge rather than by observation only.

3.fragile : nick night

There are many meanings in the word 'fragile', but among them the meaning of ‘fragile’ coexists with the meaning of ‘breakable’ and the meaning of ‘delicate’

below sentence  is an appreciation note that I visited at the Nicknite photo exhibition when I was in Korea

'Unlike the artist’s intention to express a sense of insignifiance about beautiful flowers that bloom at one point, the flowers that fall in my eyes are pretty just as they are.'

When I wrote this, I thought about the relationships with the opposite sex, and in my view I thought it was part of love and beautiful even when the person I love left me.

tyler.jpg.1

 4.flower :  tyler the creator

The lyrics of this song are very similar to the emotional side I have when I meet, so I want to know more about this song.

Looking at the lyrics, I was able to identify his sensibility with mine with his delicate poetic expression.

also, I can broaden my perspective from his lilycs such as dream state, fantasy, sheep, 20/20 vision and so on.

'tyler the creator - see you agian'

Okay, okay, okay, okay

Okay, okay, oh

You live in my dream state

We're lowkey my fantasy

I stay in reality

You live in my dream state

Any time I count sheep

That's the only time we make up, make up

You exist behind my eyelids, my eyelids

Now I don't wanna wake up

20/20, 20/20 vision

Cupid hit me, cupid hit me with precision

I wonder if you look both ways

When you cross my mind, I said, I said

I'm sick of, sick of, sick of, sick of chasing

You're the one that's always running through my daydream, I

I can only see your face when I close my eyes

Can I get a kiss?

And can you make it last forever?

I said I'm 'bout to go to war

I don't know if I'ma see you again

Can I get a kiss? (Can I)

And can you make it last forever? (Can you)

I said I'm 'bout to go to war ('Bout to)

I don't know if I'ma see you again

(Uh, switch it up)

I said, okay, okay, okay, okidokie, my infatuation

Is translatin' to another form of what you call it? Love

Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah, I ain't met you

I've been looking, stuck here waiting for I

Stop the chasing, like an alcoholic

You don't understand me, what the fuck do you mean?

It's them rose to the cheeks, yeah it's them dirt-colored eyes

Sugar honey iced tea, bumblebee on the scene

Yeah I'd give up my bakery to have a piece of your pie

Yugh!

(So)

Can I get a kiss? (Can I get a kiss?)

And can you make it last forever? (Oh, forever)

I said I'm 'bout to go to war (Go to war)

I don't know if I'ma see you again (See you again)

Can I get a kiss? (Can I)

And can you make it last forever? (Can you)

I said I'm 'bout to go to war ('Bout to)

I don't know if I'ma see you again

Okay, okay, okay, okay

Okay, okay, okay, oh

La la, la la la la, la la

La la, la la la, la la

One more time?

750 words Contextual Review

HYUN GYU SHIN (student id:18026348) GROUP: FT1

Because of the visa problem, I was able to participate in the class after 1st, 2nd and 3rd weeks of the first part. I couldn't keep up with the class completely because of the various problems that arise from adapting to the new environment. I will try to adapt as much as I can and explain what I have experienced and what I have done.

First of all, the things I experienced on the course were textile project, group project, my personal work, contextual practice and sewing workshop.

I was so lost in my first Textiles project. Rather than looking for research on my subject, I tried my best to understand and feel the way all possible artists work in the bibliography. By doing this research, I didn't get many sources for my work directly, but I found that there was an invisible connection to the artists I thought were all different. For example, the majority of writers inspired by Bianca are immigrants, for example, African American, and one thing that was better was the fact that I didn't know about history and that I could work on collage by associating it with my perspective. However, I am not sure if this is the right way because what I wanted to express with this collage does not fully fit the theme of my project as a whole. But I think researching what different artists have expressed their work in different ways with different materials is the first step in helping me do it myself.

During the group project, I actively followed and participated in the opinions of my friends rather than expressing my opinions. Although the visual aspects of the preferred work seemed to differ much, to the best of our ability, we shared and decided, thinking about the direction in which we could improve in the situation at the time. I felt fresh about an approach that I wouldn't have done at all if I were alone, and I thought designing clothes based on this work would be a fresher reference when I did it alone. However, I couldn't go further because of the blockage in my project.

Contextual practices and workshops have been very helpful to me. I could think about a variety of different perspectives associated with the project I was working on in that week while I was doing a contact patch, and it would be fun to study those factors further and apply them to my work. During the sewing workshop, I found myself more interested in sewing than in knitting.
With the workshop, I felt that I could improve my work and that I should be willing to learn new skills that can be used for the work as well as the workshops that I do at school.

Finally, as I chose the subject I wanted to do and proceeded with the project, I was too concerned about the sketchbook process. When I think about it, i think that the problem with the process might be the problem with the idea, and that lack of ideas is, is it wrong or not?

At first, I wanted to define my point of view by dividing the outer and inner parts about masculinity and mix them together, but I think I couldn't show it well because it is difficult to proceed with the sketchbook.

In the week of ‘what's the point’, I wanted to design an extension of muscles that fit my external masculinity by applying it to my clothes. the first idea I came up with was to create a garment that would inflate it like a tube wherever wearer want to inflate, but I felt that I lacked the initiative in how to design this non-traditional method, and I decided to use an easier balloon to design. I think this is the most important thing that I need to fix in order to make the design style more interesting. Choosing an easy way seems to be linked to less experimental work.

I think I should try the technical part of my work that I can't do to be more experimental and constantly explore how I can apply it in my own way. I am always inspired by various old and modern designers and artists(such as phoebe philo, steffano pilati, marine serre and stefan cooke) and not just by artist and designers, but by everything I see, hear, and feel.
