part 2 contextual review

Part 2 contextual review

HYUN GYU SHIN (student id:18026348) GROUP: FT2

I got lost in my first textile project and kept asking questions to find my own answers before the interview. It was more of a thought process than a visual creation. The reason I chose this course of thought was that it was pointless to proceed with a project (such as the re-use project) before I really understood what I was trying to say. But when I saw my colleague's work through the group tutorial, what I felt was that no matter what I started from around me,
I can intergrate it later through the work. I finally realized how to integrate my visualized ideas and show them in a connected way. The sketchbook is not an act to do a sketchbook, but to record my thoughts, visualize my ideas that came to mind at that time, and to use them to create a three-dimensional shape, and to see it across my body, and this was an opportunity to solve my biggest problem, the problem of not going through the sketchbook.

While working on the Re-use project, I had done little work on the practical sketchbook, which I thought at the time was due to the conclusion that life as a fashion designer was not so sustainable and the futility of my life caused by it.
No matter how sustainable an material may be, the biggest problem will not be solved. From a broad point of view it was the idea of carnivores, and from a narrow point of view it was the idea of the materials we should use in art colleges. I eat beef and use paper constantly.

Through this process I have been through, I have been able to understand how to integrate the invisible connectivity of the countless studies around me.It was a story about what I really was interested in and what center my life was made up of.

I did a much more advanced workshop through part 2 than I did in part 1 and tried to show it as a connected story of myself and how to solve it on a person's body or on a man's. Trying different kinds of workshops, or techniques, I came up with different ideas from different perspectives every minute, which means the more I try new technologies, the more new ideas come to me.

Unlike the last time, they succeeded in developing ideas using non-traditional materials, but this was achieved through workshops in school classes, not voluntary achievement. I think this is one of my most lacking parts. I am good at planning on developing and how to solve the accident But I could find myself feeling bothersome about implementing and carrying out the actual plan.

However, as a result of my experience in class, I realized I was more interested in 3D work than in 2D work in sketchbook and my performance was better. I think this is the point that I need to solve consistentlyI think this is a problem that I need to work on. I think I should experimentally implement the technical aspects that I am not familiar with, and constantly explore how I can apply them in my own way.

Deep research into a particular artist has been done so much that it cannot be put here, and now all around me is an artist and designer. I will be constantly inspired by them every minute and weave them into my story.

Through this session, rather than thinking about my positioning, I thought about what I really was interested in and what messages I wanted to convey. Through contextual practice time, I was able to analyze my personality type and define myself more clearly through this experience. I'm the one who wants to tell the story of humanity and I want to make people feel and react through the illusion that I created and woven. I am sure that the reaction can lead to a change in small behavior, and that change in behavior can lead to a change in society. I really want to make a change in someone's feelings through my work, and if there is a change in behavior, my life will be more meaningful.

The more abstract the topic, the closer it is to the fundamental, the more elements available for the project, but the more difficult it is to visualize.

Is it a personal preference difference?

What I have to ask myself

about g-dragon

- he shows a different melody and than ordinary ballad music usually seen on K-pop. Study the reason by associating it with the music genre he is playing.

- he has a rhythm that he uses especially often when it comes to rhythm use. What is the proper mix of commas and notes and how is it applied?

- he shows a different choice from ballad composers who have already analyzed harmony. What is it and why do you make that choice? So why does it appeal to the public?

- he uses acoustic instruments properly, not just electronic music. Study what instruments you use. Is it an appropriate choice if I have a high proportion of electronic instruments when I make music?

- he does not present an important tune in the second half, but presents it in the first half and does a lot of iterations. What is the effect of this and how does the public take it? In other words, it is also wrong with ordinary ballad music, so study its effects.

- Is it true if you think the public likes songs full of electronic music? Is it an illusion? That is, as long as you do pop music, are you considering the sound that the public likes? What sound do you think the public like?

- These days, the trend is to arrange and record actual performers rather than in mediums, which is happening in the music industry, but also in the video/movie music scene. Am I studying for actual performance, not to be ignored by the performers? In other words, do I think music can be printed on home studio recordings? Now, the trend in the music industry and the music industry is moving toward a joint compilation. Are you personally investing your time to study more music so that you don't have to participate or fall behind?

30 dec. to petra

Hi Petra, i'm shin

Thank you for your advice on the project. Thank you very much for recommending interesting information too!

I have another question for you

I saw the design using Japanese war criminal flag and thought about the context.

It is a symbol that reminds us of our heartbreaking history. It's like the hakenkreuz pattern that Europeans see.

I want to hear your opinion about this point.

Alexander McQueen said in an interview, describing the raped woman.

“This collection was a shout against English designers . . . doing flamboyant Scottish clothes. My father’s family originates from the Isle of Skye, and I’d studied the history of the Scottish upheavals and the Clearances. People were so unintelligent they thought this was about women being raped—yet Highland Rape was about England’s rape of Scotland.”

and The designer who made this design said:

“You can screw each other but stop fucking the planet. Screw yourselves but stop fucking the planet”

This is not an intention to praise the flag symbol i think.

But the memory of rape and war must be a painful memory for the parties involved in that situation.

If the intention is irrelevant or if you deny it, is it okay to use such a reference? Or is it just a choice based on individual value judgments?

What do you think about using this kind of references?

Thank you for reading!

I like the curriculum in this school that encourages me to continue to draw my sensitivities.

Why don't I paint my diary?
If it's not a picture, it can be an image or a collage.
I think it's helpful to keep a diary to elicit sensitivity.
If this is expressed using pictures such as shape, texture, color, and concept, it would be a way to practice with visual expression

30 dec. opposite of ownership (overconsumption)

The opposite of ownership is "consideration for each other."

Opposition to possession is 'caring for the other party'

Watching this play, most audiences will ask the following questions. 'What is the opposite of ownership?' The answer is often easy to think of 'no ownership'. But the play does not say that the opposite of possession is non-owning.

"When I was in my twenties I wanted to be something, I think I was in my thirties when I wanted to have something crazy. Then I suddenly felt this idea. As I kept thinking, I soon came to the conclusion that I had to insure someone's damages, so I wrote a work like this. "

The play shows all four cases that would appear as a result of owning a chair, and as the author says, it eventually shows the audience that one person has no choice but to suffer damage. At the same time, he argues that the opposite of natural possession is 'caring for the other party'.

Just as Kim Myung-kyu's final decision in the play, "I'll give up this chair," ensures peace between four people. It is saying that it can be.

Then one question that comes up here. Why did theater choose a chair from among so many objects as a symbol of possession?

Sun Wook-hyun, who wrote and directed the play, responded to this.

"Well, I can tell you very easily that I'm a 17-year-old full-time playwright. Isn't this the most accessible and friendly object for me? It doesn't mean anything.

Yes. Like the title of a play, a chair is not wrong, nor is it important. We should pay attention to the appearance of humans around on chairs.

‘Surface is not just a surface but a result of something inside.’

I wrote that reflections always lead to universal values.

On second thought, rather than a superficial phenomenon that is not necessarily universal value, I tend to investigate the inner surface of the phenomenon and use other superficial things to make figurative representations.
It made me wonder why I felt figurative expressions were sophisticated.
It led to the study of historical facts and concepts about metaphor.

Rather than superficial direct expression, I thought that bringing in another symbolic sign and adding something about my project would enrich my work.

Alexander McQueen, for example, used the term rape of a woman to describe the treatment of Scotland in England.

The designer who expressed using the principles of balloons in the 19th graduation show seems to have expressed well in his own way by comparing the meaning of his own expression to the balloon rather than the expression of his direct source.

These tasks inspired me.

There are too many directions to solve.

Why?

From the perspective of the small universe of my existence,

I see too much.

Because the truth that they are finally facing is one direction.

Everything is connected.

There are a lot of ideas in my head that come to mind when I encounter thoughts and visuals.
Is it because I don't visualize it in the moment?

Because the idea that comes to my mind from the image is only in my head.

others can never understand what I think looking at the images I used.

"It's difficult."
There is nothing difficult in the world.
There's only one thing we known and we don't know
There's only one thing I've done and one thing I haven't.

After all, it was not difficult for the child.
The child was just a rough look at the concept.

It wasn't difficult.
He didn't exactly learn the concept.
There is a reason why he has not mastered the concept correctly.
The reasons must be seen correctly.

The time of the past when he went to several private tutoring institutes,
Full schedule,
To be recognized in school or in academy; to be praised.
without the time to organize his thoughts

The strange habit that the situation created
The child still has it.

In other words, he don't listen to my words and explanations properly.
No wonder the child was growing up in an environment in which he could be recognized even a little bit.

I keep my child from saying what he thinks these days.
It's not about blocking a child's mind.
it's educating what they listen to.
To see correctly, to hear correctly.
In fact, seeing and hearing correctly makes it easy to say and write correctly.
When you see and hear correctly, you learn the concepts correctly.

How much copycat should be and how much truth should be?

Could it be pointless to tell the truth from imitation?

What are the similarities and differences between them?

imitation by understanding?

All art is imitation.
It's the difference between how true that whole place is.
'Pretending to imitate' vs 'truthful imitation'
Gogh also said he wanted to look like a child drew it. So he want to be more like a child.
So to what extent is the truth behind imitation difficult and ambiguous to quantify?
What it has in common is imitation, and the difference is literally honest.
How sincere and sincere are the works created by the same imitation?
Isn't that the difference?

21 dec. discussion with father

After talking to my father, it seemed to me that both the thoughts that came to me and the direction the school pursued seemed to be in the same context.

q. I'm not sure how deep I should be philosophically. As I continue to study deeply, there is no end to see and understand.

If you're going to do popular art, not pure art, you need to find a way to capture people's hearts.

The ability to recognize it is to find it.

There is nothing new under this sun. New moods and nuances are created in the combination.

Even in history, even primitive man wore leather and repeated it in modern times.

Senses and trends.

Clothes without philosophy cannot be number one,

The ability to create something new is also essential.

What are you more competitive with?

If you are more competitive in concept creation, you lack skills and have to fill it up.

If the skill is more competitive, the concept creation is lacking and must be filled more.

(At the basis of the foundation)

But in order to be competitive in the real world, you have to be different from others by giving you 10% more focus on what you are good at.

Even philosophy is to establish one's own ideas based on what already exists. (ism + ism + ism)

Any tree grows well. It can be an expensive tree depending on whether you are good at pruning or not.

(Discussions with colleagues, conversations and advice with professors)

Big head and small body is strange person.

Even if the body is big and the head is small, it is a strange person.

In fact, this may be something you should worry about after becoming a designer.

Once you go and do the actual work, you come up with your own ideas.

Don't try to make something so perfect, live like a sponge

Reflection question

1.How did the training make you feel?

Usually I try a lot to break prejudice and prejudice, but often I can't. After recognizing vaguely understood concepts as categorised words studied by different practitionor, I was more clear and I am sure that it helps me not to have prejudices in different categories.

Can you think of a time when you have been inadvertently biased in the past?

Of course there is.

On the surface, dealing with someone who doesn't seem to match the personality I'm aiming for has led me to have a prejudice against him without realizing it.

It turned out later that he wasn't the kind of person

I also think it is a property that can change over time.

How will you change your perception of people now?

recognizing the prejudices that I've learned. I will try not to apply my perceived prejudices to others and everything around me.

q.Did you study geometry?

(I wanted to find out more about this project. Because I wanted to find out more deeply, but it was difficult to do it in a short period) Of course, I think it's right to study as an artist like davinci, but I don't know if it's the right way for fashion designers

q.feedback comment

I'm sorry that I didn't get the proper feedback while showing the work.

I had to point out the shortcomings rather than the good ones.

I should have asked exactly what specific areas would be good if I wanted to, but I couldn't.

q.do you think your primary research supported your work

yes

q.how do your primary research support your work?

I've been thinking a lot about the countless artists I've researched and the techniques they've used in their work, and what one concept i can connect lots of my research to.

I think it was the first step to solve my problem. Personally, after thinking about what I felt, what I thought, all the research started to connect. As they began to connect, a lot of different ideas began to come up. It was a really mysterious experience and I think it is one of the most valuable things I have learned on this course.

q.what have you learned from your pair collaboration.

I don't think our collaboration has been successful.

Because of my colleague's personal reasons, I couldn’t meet her during the research period, and I only saw her one time during the week.

I tried to communicate as much as I could, but the uncooperative response from the other party dampened my enthusiasm for cooperation.

But what I learned from this, I think the meaning of cooperation is the same as human relations.

I think that a relationship that is not true is meaningless.

In other words, I had no interest in untrue collaboration.

Contrary to what it looks like, my partner and I had no consensus at all, and I'm sure that this situation was caused by it.

reflection question

q. what is your project about? (50-100words)

imperfect death

We take medicine and get surgery in the hope of immortality and eternity, but we're going to be lost in this world after all

I think even the pieces of a jar broken by nine-tenths of a chance are as beautiful and meaningful as a jar completed with one-tenth of a chance.

Watching the busking reminded me of an unfulfilled death.

But busking is literally about all the performances that people can find interesting.

Although there is a point of view that they can't be seen as successful as celebrities,

Even someone's failure is a beautiful act that can inspire others.

q.what experimentation, sample or ~~~~~ can you make to build your own primary research? -> upload on workflow( reflection )

i think i can dismantle and reassemble various objects related to me in different ways to make final objects

objectify.jpg.1

q.what was good (what did you want to experiment?)

in terms of the techniques and object I used, i tried to have meaning related to my subject and I think it was the most successful.

although I wasn't the one performing the busking, her situation was no different from mine.

I used tobacco for technique because it meant death and was inseparable from work to me.

When I struggle with work, I usually smoke.

At first, I cut it with a knife, but I thought it would be better to crush it by hand in an irregular shape to cause a variety of failure patterns.

q.how can you take it forward?

different types of adhesion method and other materials to do experiment.

q.what was one practival thing that you have learned by seeing your peers work? how do you want to take it forward in your work?

There are many parts, but the most impressive thing was the clear layout to show my ideas and the way I used drawing materials.

First, I thought it would be nice if I could show my layout ideas related to the project adier.

Although I used the same drawing material for the second time, it was interesting that I could show the atmosphere of the project using many different techniques.

q.what is succesful in your project so far?

I think the most successful thing is that i was able to give unity with the shape structure and color Choice.

q.what are 3 possible outcomes for your project?

-baking garment like moon jar

-portable installation (5objects related to my concept)

-

q.for your favorite possible outcome, what resources would you need: marerial, skill, workshop access, costs, time?

I think that in order to make costumes and object for this project, i need to understand the process of making jars and think that this technology can be learned by going to workshops or visiting a place where potter bake a pot actually.

reflective question

1.how have you ensored a successful collaboration?

Before I talked to her, I searched about the collaboration between Raphsimons and Sterling Ruby to understand how collaboration works. i was able to figure out how their respective interests were combined and visually expressed through cooperation. Then I tried to share my thoughts even it was not involved in the work, for a successful collaboration. I think the most important thing is to know what kind of work you prefer. Before starting the project, I thought it was important to talk about what we like to do for successful collaboration because we knew nothing about each other

After examining the collaboration between Raff and Ruby, I showed her what I thought was important, and because of her personal circumstances, I couldn't see the exhibition together. After each visit, we talked about finding something in common related to each other's interests.

When I explained to her the work that was interesting to me, I thought of Native American medicine. With her thoughts, I was able to relive the exhibition of the healing therapy I visited.I think this is the most successful part.

2.create an action plan to approch exploation of ideas.

At first, I thought I should go to exhibition after I set a topics. But we haven't decided what we're going to talk about, and we've decided to make an independent visit to each other's concerns.
I tried to come across various kinds of research, and then I could look at the works and come up with what I wanted to put together the experiences I had that day.
I am sure that this will allow me to explore my ideas on the basis of the concepts, techniques, or related actors derived from them.

3.name 3 ways to develop your primary research

-drawing

-collage

-making samples (using any kind of materials)
